    Toddler Gardener | Forest Friday

Um, this sweet gum ball is rough! The title of this post should actually be Toddler-Who-Pulls-Labels-And-Gets-Into-Things…but that’s ok, our future gardener loves being outside and we (mostly) love chasing him around the yard. It certainly gets the Fitbit steps in even if Chris and I have to take shifts. Happy Friday! Hope you get some gardening in this weekend!

    Sunday Reads

Happy Sunday, folks! +In recent weeks there’s been several write-ups about sexism and harassment within several governmental agencies. It would be great to think that a lot of that is fading out, and it is, but there’s still blatant and covert sexism out there. Ask any female you know and you will be guaranteed to get a story about harassment or sexism. The covert comments are the worst because sometimes you don’t grasp it while it’s happening, only later upon reflection…that some random comment or action was sexist. It isn’t just government agencies, any industry that has been historically dominated by males with females integrating within it, you’re guaranteed to…

Downton Abbey!!! The series finale was almost everything one could want after several ‘blah’ seasons. You know, one character I never thought I would come to like was Thomas. Frankly, I think he and Edith might have become the better characters by the end of the show. And Bates? His character just went from loveable to creepy. 7 Lessons Bindweed is Teaching Me Super Tuesday and Primary voting: I know this is not the week that happened, but I did vote in my first ever primary and Super Tuesday. Florida has closed primaries, and as I was a registered Green party member in that state, I did not ever get…

Forest Friday | Yard Wandering Edition

If you’ve been around a toddler for any length of time you know that they are hilarious and silly but also extremely exhausting! Forest is no different and pair that with his insatiable appetite for being outside (I wonder where he got that from??) chasing him around the yard will get anyone 10,000 Fitbit steps! His favorite things outside include looking up at birds and airplanes flying overhead, dinging the wind chimes, and pulling flowers! I recently identified a weed that is prolific here, Japanese hawkweed, and it is blooming right now. Forest wants to have a handful of its flowers if he sees any blooming. I’ve been pulling the…

Mercy Street on PBS. This is coming on after Downton Abbey for the next few weeks. I’m liking it but wishing it was longer than 6 episodes. I’m glad Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother) is stretching his acting chops but disappointed they are dragging out the morphine addiction thing. Yeah, we know, Civil War + morphine = addiction. Good times! This Outlander Season 2 Trailer! Two podcasts: Native Plant Podcast and In Defense of Plants Podcast. Both are excellent! Overtone color conditioner! Y’all might remember my pink hair on the Appalachian Trail. I’ve wanted to redo it ever since but haven’t wanted to deal with some of the…

Another fast week! Childless Man Gets a C-Section: a podcast via The Longest Shortest Time. While the title suggests it is all about a man understanding a c-section, really the episode is about c-sections in general. I may have cried while listening. Monica Lewinsky: The Price of Shame: I was in college when the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal was going on and while I had an ear slightly turned to it all, I didn’t pay that much attention. However, I did really find her talk eloquent and very appropriate for today’s internet society. I’ve definitely found that internet shaming has seeped into real life with people finding it easier to lose empathy…

Oof! We went camping last weekend and mid-week I was thinking, man, I never remember it always takes me a week to adjust to my usual schedule and feel back in the swing of things after a bit of time away. And then, of course, late Tuesday I started feeling iffy with a sore throat that turned into feeling like someone had roughed up my throat with a Brillo pad on Wednesday. Wednesday evening I was not feeling like doing anything and debated if this was going to be the flu, strep throat, or tonsillitis. When I woke up yesterday I knew better than to go into work and decided…
