Blog Evolutions

Hello out there!

It’s been more than a few months since I’ve written here. This blog has been in fluctuation for at least the last five years as I’ve slowly stopped writing frequently to the point of not writing at all. I’m still writing, just elsewhere.

In all honesty, I’m trying to figure out what to do with the blog. It’s time for it to evolve. I’m hesitant to move a lot of it offline because there’s a lot of trip and hiking reports that might be useful to someone doing a google search. And I pilfer through here frequently looking for things I’ve written years ago for reflection or to process something I’ve been ruminating about. Shocking, writing random things on the internet for 20+ years ends up being a lot more important to you as a writer than you realized when you were typing away in 2005 on some nonsense or another.

But, do I still want all of that for everyone to see? Maybe it is time to archive a lot of it, which means it will still be accessible to me but not y’all. Forest is in his tweens…I don’t know that I need to have all of his baby stuff front and center for his friends to read one day.

Now that I’m smack-dab in my mid-40s (45 on July 11th), it seems fitting in this mid-life perimenopausal transition zone that the blog would undergo the same type of transition. I’ve been writing more focused natural history writing over at On Texas Nature for a few years now and have been enjoying that. It’s helped expand my writing a great deal. I’m still looking for more, though. And then there’s the aspect that I’m a lot less open about writing the random stuff that I was 20 years ago, or even 5 years ago. Random things typically find another outlet these days.

So, what’s in store here? I honestly don’t know. I lean towards a quiet photo blog with a few short paragraphs. I do know that when I tend to limit and constrict myself I end up fighting it and then not doing any of it because, why am I telling myself what to do? hah! I can do what I want, self, you can’t tell me what to do!

Therefore, no rules. Just showing up. Once a week. Aiming for Wednesdays but again, not going to put rules on that.

I will be reworking the blog format in the coming months as well: new banner, side links, etc. Time for a new bio, too!

If you’ve been a long time reader, I hope you’ll stick around as I reinvent the blog!

Tell me what you’ve been up to!

Enjoy your writing but understand the dilemna on how much to put on the internet. I’ve toyed with the idea of putting a “password” type security on mine. But it’s fun when random people find my content. Mostly I fret over losing access to all of my writing. A lot of work has gone into it over the years!

Best of luck as you re-configure. I’ve enjoyed the changes Dormouse has made to her writing, if you’re following their CDT hike.

    Happy Trails!!
