21 Weeks & Early Thoughts on the Bradley Method
I was going to wait to write a pregnancy post until a week from now after my 23 week appointment, but I’ve got thoughts so I decided I’d write them down now instead. I think this dress came from my friend Erika, but I’m not sure. I’ve been lucky to have obtained maternity clothes from three different people which has allowed me to minimize my clothing purchases while pregnant. Normally I am not really into dresses. Skirts yes, but dresses typically make me very self conscious about my flabby middle. Since the middle isn’t so much flabby as carrying a child at the moment, it seemed like an option to…

19 Weeks and It’s A…
BOY! We had our appointment on Monday morning and promptly went in to the ultrasound room right away. The tech asked if we wanted to know the sex, which of course we did, and while Chris had full view of the screen the tech did a few measurements and then asked what we thought it was. I swore it was a girl this whole time and there was even a potential girl name we’d talked about. And then she showed me the screen and pointed out the leg….the other leg…and then the other ‘leg’…and I may have said “It’s a boy! Damnit!” The damn wasn’t out of disappointment, it was…

Who’s That Crazy Doggie??
Back in 2008 and 2009 we dogsat Baloo while our friends Marc and Eliana went on a crosscountry roadtrip. During that time Baloo became part of the pet family and we really grew to love the dog. He went on hikes and adventures with us and was a lively and entertaining addition to the household. I don’t think Samson and Leo thought that, but we did! We hadn’t seen the doggie since we left Florida in 2010. We attempted to see him in 2011 when we went on the Florida Trail but when we dropped by Eliana wasn’t home. Eliana and Marc weren’t home this time around either since they…

There’s an Avocado in my belly!
OK, so there actually is one digesting in my stomach since we had fajitas tonight, but according to the fruit-of-the-week I get in my weekly pregnancy update emails from The Bump, this week the baby is roughly the size of an avocado! I told Chris this at our midwife appointment yesterday and he was like ‘Wow, that’s pretty big!’ Now, we’re not talking the size of those wonderful, large green and smooth skinned avocados you see in many yards in Florida, we’re talking more of the medium sized Haas avocados from the grocery store. Which…I mean, still. It’s kind of crazy to think about. So, I like this photo of…

Feral Cat Love
Sweet, sweet Little Callie. She lets us pet her, sometimes we can pick her up briefly. Unfortunately she and Fred are both picked on by Tom and Mr. Stripey, and apparently by Ruby on occassion. Sometimes I wish I could bring her inside and she could be a girlfriend for Samson or Leo. Fred, sweet and shy boy. We thought we were going to lose Fred last week. Two weeks ago Ruby was sick for a few days, lingering off by herself and not eating. She appeared miserable but after three or four days she began eating. Sometime in the middle of her sickness Isis disappeared. She has not returned.…

Wrapping Up The First Trimester
Now that I’m officially in my 12th week I am starting to feel better. Though, Sunday I was hit with a wretched headache. I had attributed it to not sleeping very well in the hotel the night before but apparently after reading online when morning sickness leaves, headaches enter. Cooooool. I actually hadn’t had a headache in quite awhile, something I had thought had to do with my being off coffee. Sometimes I’ll end up with a caffeine headache on weekends but that hadn’t been a problem since quitting coffee in early January. As I said last week I was going to wrap up my thoughts on the first trimester…

Acne, Food Aversions & Early to Bed | The First Trimester
The Backstory: Chris and I aren’t ‘old’ but we’re not spring chickens either. We finally decided that we should leap into this parenthood adventure after many years of putting it off. We’ve been married almost 12 years (coming this June), I’m 33 and he’s 34. Not that I couldn’t have gone on with life with just two of us and the ability to adventure into places without a child in tow, but we thought it was worth the time to go ahead and see where this trail led us. Without going into too many details, it was on the fourth month of heading down this path that I got the…

A New Adventure
Chris and I have been thinking for awhile that we needed a new adventure, something to mix things up. How’s this for an adventure????? It got the trail name ‘Teddy’ today after this little pose. The ultrasound tech said it looked like a teddy bear in this position—supposedly this is the face and its arms are sticking out. I get the arms, not sure about the face part. We were sent home with a great strip of first photos for Teddy, this is only half of them, the others are folded over on the other side….I could oogle all night long. I’m 11 weeks, ‘Teddy’ should arrive somewhere the first…

The Faces of Christmas Eve
First up was Christmas Eve at my parent’s house with my brother, sister-in-law, and the niece and nephew. I think Grayson gets it this year more than last year as is evident in the photos below. Lots of great facial expressions from those kidlets this year! Next up we’re off to Chris’ side of the family! Happy Christmas y’all! (I’m gonna have to find a way to watch Happy Christmas Miss King sometime today…dangit, it’s not on Netflix.)

Zoe at Five
My niece, Zoe, is a little over 5 years old now. It is hard to believe that she’s now really just a tiny adult. Of course she’s not really an adult in knowledge and mannerisms yet, but she’s definitely beyond the baby and toddler years and has her own personality and opinions. Girl has attitude. She, her brother Grayson, and her mom and dad came down over the weekend for one of our multiple-times-of-year ‘Whitlock Weekends’. Or at least that’s what I like to call ’em, the times when my family comes down to visit, or I go up to visit them. It was a great adventure this weekend, full…
