Thanksgiving
Typically Chris and I like to do something ‘different’ for Thanksgiving each year. It was something we started when we lived in Florida and had to decide about going home during the holidays. After the first year or two we didn’t really go back to Texas all that often, mostly because it wasn’t in our budget to do so. Because four days off at one time is a precious commodity, we usually took advantage of the days to go camping somewhere. I wrote up our Ghosts of Thanksgivings Past back in 2010 when we were stuck in deep East Texas doing field work for Thanksgiving. We worked that day and…

Family Photos
A few weekends ago we got outside to take some family photos for our upcoming Christmas card. Here’s a few of my favorites from that day. Sometime I would like to hire someone because I’m just not going to be able to take some of the shots with the three of us that I want with a camera on a tripod.

Old Memories | New Memories
It’s been almost five years since I was on Mustang Island and in Port Aransas. It’s been even longer, decades, since I took an actual vacation there with my parents. It must have been high school, maybe middle school, the last time I was there on vacation with them. They’ve gone many years since then but Chris and I were in Florida for a lot of those times. The last two years for their vacations they went to Arkansas, one of which we joined them on. Last year I was too pregnant to be traveling that far. When my parents mentioned they were going back to Port A this year…

Port A Vacation Video
Ah, the lovely thing about videos is that sometimes they aren’t that hard to edit and put together. Photos and writing down a blog?? A little more time consuming. Still working on that, but if you’ve got 27 minutes you can see some stuff I shot while on vacation!

Easter
Forest had his first experience on a swing at Mimi and PawPaw’s house over Easter. I think overall he was quite happy about the experience and I wish we had a good limb at our house for one. Unfortunately most of our trees are tall without low limbs, though there is the live oak by the street—but it is by the street. On Saturday my mom, sister-in-law Stephanie, Forest, and I did a 5K walk fundraiser for my mom and Stephanie’s church. We successfully walked it in under an hour despite the air turning chilly that morning. I did not plan for cool weather so Chris, Forest and I had…

Fresh Air at Tandy Hills
Castilleja purpurea, purple paintbrush Wild onion flowers New trail Where the old trail was… On Good Friday we drove up to Ft. Worth for the Easter weekend. We got up early and made good time, stopping just twice to change and feed Forest. Always in a Tex-Mex mood when I hit the DFW area (because, seriously, Houston doesn’t compare to Tex-Mex in DFW) we went to Mexican Inn on East Lancaster in Ft. Worth, my parent’s old stomping grounds growing up. It was only a hop and skip across the road to Tandy Hills and I wanted to scope out the wildflowers. Unfortunately we were a few weeks early for…

Harvesting a Christmas Tree
Chris and I have always wanted to harvest our own Christmas tree but since we don’t live in northern climes with fir trees and acres of our own forested woodland we made do with going to Spring Creek Growers for our first Christmas tree in this house. I haven’t decorated for Christmas in over five years, mostly because I’m too lazy to get the decorations out and then put them back up again a month later. Since we now have a little one in the house we figured it would be good to enjoy the holiday season a little bit more and opted to get our decorations out and get…

Adventures with Fungus | Forest Friday
Just a new weekly meme. Something for me to share a Forest photo and to write a little something here.
